Mission
The Engineering Manager is accountable for creating and implementing strategic goals for the maintenance crew, as well as meeting agreed-upon business targets in terms of safety, production and cost, growth, people, social responsibility, and environmental objectives. Design and implement an appropriate Business Improvement framework (policies, procedures, and processes) for the engineering team, as well as manage the implementation of continuous improvement interventions to produce long-term cost, efficiency, and employee health and wellness programs.
Ensure effective supervision and management of the Maintenance Crew by allocating and managing resources (people and equipment) to meet production and engineering goals.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
· Actively promote safety culture and hazard awareness in the mine by achieving zero reportable environmental incidents, and zero compliance violations, and constantly assessing safety standards and work procedures for the engineering personnel.
· Create and implement effective engineering standards and procedures that comply with ISO 45001 requirements.
· Ensure compliance with local government needs, shareholder interests, environmental health and safety legislation, and company regulations.
· Ensure the quality of maintenance job execution and delivery through detailed planning to ensure high levels of dependability for productive assets.
· Develop and implement business practices, procedures, rules, and systems in maintenance that are consistent with the organization’s overall strategy and maximize operational efficiencies and competitive advantage.
· Monitor the supply, availability, and quality of parts, inventory, general and specific consumables, and equipment necessary to ensure the mine’s long-term operation.
· Ensure that infrastructure requirements are delivered under the procurement and contracting strategy, including construction time, cost, and quality concerns.
· Continuously monitor operations (by reports, visits, inspections, etc.) and advise actions to maintain plan compliance and continuity.
· Acts as a change agent and project sponsor for significant initiatives; models organizational values, sets the cultural tone and prioritizes business objectives.
· Create an appropriate working atmosphere to motivate employees and contractors to attain peak effectiveness, productivity, and operational costs.
· Train new staff by explaining procedures, familiarizing them with operations, and reviewing job assignments to orient them and maximize performance.
· In the event of an accident, do a survey, record the incident under existing policy, proceed with the repair, and issue a report with photos as needed.
· Set performance goals and metrics, and monitor and manage the overall performance of workers and/or contract employees within the functional department.
· Build team competencies to improve maintenance’s ability to achieve financial and operational plans; identify succession position requirements and high potential talent and aggressively develop key talents.
· Responsible for conducting performance reviews, suggesting promotions, and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
· Perform other duties as given by your supervisor or authorized delegate.
Qualification and Experience
· A bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, or a similar field of study, from an accredited institution is required.
· Planning, Reliability qualification
· Financial and commercial Management through work experience and courses.
Experience
· A minimum of 12 years of experience in engineering maintenance in a mining setting, including at least 7 years in management.
· Experience in management and QA/QC
· Experience in Project Management
· Prior expat experience preferred
Legal Requirements
· Must possess an Engineering Manager Certificate of Competency
· Professional Certificated Engineer with a relevant certification body

· Strong maintenance competencies in HME and fixed plants
· Sound project management skills
· Should have analytical skills to be able to evaluate information and solve complex problems.
· Detail-oriented to understand complex systems, and recognise that a minor error can cause major problems.

· Legally astute concerning project delivery and maintenance systems
· Excellent skills in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Project and Excel
· Must be able to communicate about technical issues both orally and in writing
