emPLE is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented IT Database Specialist to design, implement, manage, and optimize the organization’s database systems. The ideal candidate will combine strong database management and programming expertise with advanced data analysis and Excel skills to ensure data accuracy, performance, and availability for business decision-making and software development. This role requires both technical proficiency and analytical insight to transform raw data into actionable intelligence. The following are the responsibilities and qualifications for the position;

Job Details

Key Responsibilities:

Database Management

  • Install, configure, and maintain database systems (SQL Server, MongoDB, or equivalent).
  • Develop software using React, Python, JavaScript, Java, etc
  • Monitor database performance and implement tuning strategies (indexes, partitions, query optimization).
  • Ensure database security, access control, and compliance with company policies and regulations.
  • Manage backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Automate routine database tasks using scripts or database management tools.
  • Collaborate with developers to design efficient data models, schemas, and stored procedures.
  • Plan and execute database migrations, upgrades, and patching activities.

Data Analysis & Reporting

  • Collect, clean, and interpret data from multiple sources to support business intelligence initiatives.
  • Build dashboards, performance metrics, and trend reports.
  • Develop queries, stored procedures, and views to extract insights from large and complex datasets.
  • Partner with business analysts and department heads to translate requirements into data-driven solutions.
  • Identify trends, anomalies, and correlations in data.
  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and quality through validation processes.

Advanced Excel Expertise

  • Create and maintain complex Excel reports, including pivot tables, Power Query, VLOOKUP, XLOOPUP, INDEX-MATCH, and array formulas.
  • Use Excel’s advanced charting, conditional formatting, and visualization techniques.
  • Integrate Excel with databases for real-time reporting and automation.
  • Develop dynamic Excel dashboards and models.
  • Apply scenario analysis, forecasting, and “what-if” modeling to support planning.

 Academic/Technical Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Analytics, or related field.
  • 4–5+ years of proven experience as a DBA, Programming, Data Analyst, or related role.
  • Strong SQL knowledge and experience with SQL Server, MongoDB, React, Python, JavaScript and Java
  • Advanced Excel skills (PivotTables, Power Query, Power Pivot, VBA/macros).
  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools (Power BI, Tableau).
  • Experience with backup/recovery, performance tuning, and database security.
  • Familiarity with ETL processes and API integrations.
  • Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator, MongoDB Certified Associate Developer or similar.
  • Experience with cloud databases (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, Google Cloud SQL).
  • Exposure to programming languages such as React, Python, PHP, JavaScript and Java would be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of data warehousing and big data frameworks.
