Lincoln Community School is seeking the services of qualified, hardworking, and experienced individuals for the position of a School Principal. The successful candidate makes decisions about admitting Secondary School Counselors according to school policies and procedures. The ideal candidate must have the ability to lead collaboratively, be a flexible, creative thinker. The following are the responsibilities and qualifications for the position;

The Position

The Secondary School Principal is the educational and administrative leader of the secondary school (Grades 6-12). As such, they have the primary responsibility for overseeing the Secondary School’s teaching and learning programs to inspire and maximize student achievement as aligned with the school’s mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures. They will be empowered to lead the advancement of innovative teaching and learning at LCS. They report to and are evaluated on objectives established jointly with the Head of School, Ms. Lesley Tait.

The Secondary School Principal’s responsibilities include the day-to-day smooth and efficient operations of the Secondary School, curriculum development, professional development programs, and the systematic review of student achievement information, which will enable the school to engage in a cycle of continuous improvement. They provide leadership in ensuring academic achievement and social and emotional growth for all students. They effectively communicate the Secondary School’s program to students, staff, and parents.

A Deputy Principal, DP Coordinator, MYP Coordinator, and two Secondary School Counselors

support the work of the Secondary School Principal.

Specific Responsibilities

STUDENTS

      i.          Make decisions about admitting Secondary School students according to school policies and

     ii.          procedures.

    iii.          Ensure a safe and positive atmosphere where each student feels a sense of belonging.

   iv.          Develop positive relationships with students.

     v.          Ensure that disciplinary guidelines are fairly and consistently applied in accordance with the school’s agreements.

   vi.          Oversee the preparation of the schedule for students and teachers so that each student benefits from the learning program.

  vii.          Create an efficient, productive, and caring atmosphere where all students and staff have the opportunity to be recognized for their individual strengths.

viii.          Maintain and oversee student records, including progress reports, report cards, and transcripts.

   ix.          Promote student leadership and school spirit.

TEACHERS AND SUPPORT STAFF

       i.          Provide for the evaluation of faculty and staff in accordance with agreed procedures.

     ii.          Serve as a mentor and instructional leader to faculty members by encouraging their professional growth and performance.

    iii.          Develop the leadership capabilities of teachers so that instructional leadership becomes a shared responsibility.

   iv.          Be present in classrooms, building a culture of collaboration and support.

     v.          Build a collaborative learning culture within the school.

   vi.          Assist the Head of School in recruiting, evaluating, and developing Secondary quality, committed faculty and staff.

PROGRAM

Provide leadership in the development of the school’s curriculum and assessment practices, working alongside teachers and other members of the leadership team.

Gather validating information that helps determine whether curriculum and instructional goals and student performance outcomes are being met.

Communicate school programs and other school activities effectively with students, staff, parents, colleagues, and in the community through verbal, nonverbal, and written communication.

Be a willing and active participant on the school’s leadership team and in committee work.

Manage school budgets efficiently and effectively, ensuring that resources support learning.

Attend and participate in all school events.

EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

       i.          Ability to lead collaboratively; a flexible, creative thinker.

     ii.          Experience as a secondary-level school administrator; three to five years of prior experience in a similar position preferred.

    iii.          A depth of pedagogical knowledge and commitment to the philosophy and instructional practices of the International Baccalaureate; direct experience within an IB school preferred.

   iv.          Successful experience in an international school community.

     v.          Proven capacity in modeling the skills and attitudes of global citizenship, antiracism, and intercultural sensitivity and proactivity.

   vi.          Proven experience in mentoring teachers to improve their professional practice.

  vii.          Evident success in building effective partnerships with parents.

viii.          Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral communications.

QUALIFICATIONS

       i.          Master’s Degree in educational leadership, administration, curriculum and instruction, or

     ii.          related field.

    iii.          Teacher certification required.

   iv.          Principal/Administrator certification preferred.
