Description
The Architect plays a pivotal role in the design and construction of buildings and structures. The primary responsibilities include shaping the built environment, balancing artistic vision with practical considerations to create functional and sustainable spaces. Meet the needs of clients while adhering to regulatory requirements and industry standards.
Responsibilities
1. Design Structures:
· Design buildings and other structures, focusing on functionality, safety, and aesthetics.
· Create plans and blueprints that outline the layout, materials, and specifications.
· Create conceptual drawings, 2D layouts, sketches, and 3D renders based on project briefs and requirements.
· Create schedules for finishing and produce permit drawings.
· Develop IFC (Issue for Construction) architectural drawings and detailed documentation.
· Generating as-built drawings and producing take-off drawings.
2. Client Collaboration
· Work closely with clients to understand their needs, preferences, and budget constraints.
· Review architectural drawings from external consultants.
· Translate client requirements into feasible design solutions.
· Prepare meeting minutes and share with respective members.
3. Technical Expertise:
· Strong understanding of construction techniques, materials, and building codes.
· Ensure that designs comply with local regulations and safety standards.
4. Project Management:
· Oversee the entire construction process from planning to completion.
· Coordinate with contractors, engineers, and other professionals to ensure the project runs smoothly and stays within budget and schedule.
· Collaborate on design and project coordination with other disciplines such as MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing), Structural, and Geotechnical.
5. Problem Solving:
· Provide solutions to complex design and construction challenges.
· Address issues related to structural integrity, environmental impact, and sustainability.
6. Visualization and Communication:
· Create visual design representations using computer-aided design (CAD) software and hand sketches.
· Design presentations to clients and stakeholders, explaining concepts and gathering clients’ feedback.
· Aid in selecting samples for finishing materials.
7. Research and Innovation:
· Staying updated on trends, materials, and technologies in the industry.
· Integrate sustainable practices and innovative solutions into created designs.
8. Site Visits and Inspection:
· Visit construction sites, conduct on-site supervision and inspection to verify construction aligns with project drawings and specifications.
· Address any issues immediately that arise during construction and implement quality control measures.
9. Legal and Contractual Obligations:
· Manage contracts, bids, and negotiations with clients and contractors.
· Ensure that all parties adhere to legal and contractual agreements.
10. Continuing Education:
· Participate in professional development activities to maintain licensure and stay informed about advancements in architecture and design.
11. Monitor Project Progress:
· Closely monitor the progress of projects according to the program of work or project schedule.
· Track key milestones, deadlines, and the overall timeline to ensure that the project stays on track.
Requirements
· Master’s Degree in Architecture or a related field.
· Minimum of 3–5 years’ relevant work experience in architectural design, project coordination, and site supervision.
· Experience in producing conceptual drawings, 2D layouts, 3D renders, permit drawings, IFC drawings, and as-built drawings.
· Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, building regulations, and approval processes.
· Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, Lumion, Enscape, V-Ray, or similar architectural software.
· Ability to coordinate with clients, consultants, contractors, engineers, and other project stakeholders.
· Experience reviewing drawings from external consultants and translating project briefs into practical design solutions.
· Strong project management, communication, reporting, and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to monitor project progress, conduct site inspections, and ensure works are carried out according to approved drawings and specifications.
· Professional certification or registration with a relevant architectural body is an added advantage.
