Purpose
The Plant Operator (Water Treatment Plant) is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining the water treatment systems to ensure the continuous supply of potable water that meets national and international quality standards. This role involves controlling treatment processes, adjusting chemical dosages, and ensuring optimal performance of treatment equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor water treatment plant equipment, including pumps, motors, filters, and chemical dosing systems.
- Ensure effective coagulation, sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection processes.
- Record and analyze key operational data such as flow rates, pressure levels, and chemical usage.
- Adjust chemical dosages as advised by the Water Quality Assurance unit.
- Conduct routine inspections and report faults or anomalies in plant equipment.
- Perform backwashing of filters and routine maintenance on treatment plant components.
- Ensure compliance with environmental and water quality regulations.
- Implement safety measures and emergency procedures in case of system failures.
- Maintain cleanliness of the plant, including tanks, pipes, and work areas.
- Assist in troubleshooting operational issues and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency.
Qualifications/Experience
- HND/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in water treatment plant operations.
- Ability to work under minimal supervision.
